HORIZON 2020 – Framework program for research and innovation (2014-2020)
Horizon 2020 is the largest program for research and innovation" which covers all funding for research and innovation that was provided through the Framework Program for research and technological development, the Framework Program for competitiveness and innovation (CIP) and the European Institute of Innovation and technology (EIT).
The program provides better support to researchers and innovators from Europe – with in order to help good ideas enter the market and achieve sustainable economic growth and new jobs.
What is the SME Instrument of the Horizon 2020 program?
The instrument for small and medium-sized enterprises within the Horizon program 2020 is a financial tool of the European Commission which addresses the financial needs of enterprises that are aimed at internationalization. This instrument finances projects with specific topics and covers the implementing enterprises innovative solutions with great potential.
He aims to support projects that have a European dimension and that lead towards innovative changes in doing business (product, process, service, marketing, etc.).
The SME tool is intended for all types of innovative enterprises that show strong ambition for development and internationalization of the activity. The support it takes place in three separate phases supported by mentoring. The services of mentoring, within the framework of this instrument, they provide the partner organizations of Enterprise Europe Network.
In the first stage, it can be developed visibility study for verification of technological/practical how and the economically justified innovative idea/concept with significant novelty in the industrial sector in which it is presented (new products, processes, design, services and technologies or new markets applications of existing technologies). It can be included here innovation strategy for development, requirements of partners, visibility of the concept including any risk and must have a European dimension and to contain the potential return on investment in innovative activities.
In the second phase, innovative projects will be supported which address specific challenges and which demonstrate high potential in terms of the company's competitiveness and growth supported by a strategic plan. Activities include demonstration, testing, prototyping, design, replications, etc., in order to bring the innovative idea (product, process, service, etc.) prepared in industry and ripe for market introduction, but may also include some research.
In the third phase, enterprises may benefit from indirect support measures, such as venture capital backing.
